Here at the Tattletail Wiki, while our main goal is to try and document everything about the game, we also have to ensure that all information is clear, written properly, and most important of all valid. Additionally, it is important that we know how to behave properly while using this site. Now, in order for us to achieve these goals, we must make sure that all editors know and understand how to edit articles properly.
Behavioural Guidelines[]
- Do not vandalize anything on the wiki.
- Do not spam anywhere on the wiki.
- This includes, but is not limited to, posting gibberish, random letters, comments that have nothing to do with the topic that is being commented on, chain messages, "copypastas," and huge blocks of text.
- Do not harass or bully other users.
- Do not edit other users' profiles.
- Do not give other users warnings. Only administrators are allowed to give out warnings.
- Do not flamebait either.
- Responding to flamebait with harassment will result in a warning to both parties.
- No explicit sexual material or gore.
- No excessive swearing.
- The Fandom Terms of Use also apply to the wiki.
Style Guide[]
Sentence structure[]
- Put spaces after commas and sentences.
- If you're writing a paragraph, do not cause it to have "Huge Wall of Text" syndrome. It is not appealing to look at, let alone read. Please para-space when creating an article to make it look more presentable.
Pronouns[]
Pronouns are a very important part of sentence structuring. If for example, one came across a section that read "Mama Tattletail likely wants Mama's children to go to bed, so Mama doesn't have to worry about Mama's children", they'd have a hard time reading it. Instead, consider using he/she/they, him/her/it and his/her/its.
Capital letters[]
Words should only be capitalized at the start of a sentence or if the word is a name/designation. Words like flashlight should not be capitalized, since they are common nouns and not proper nouns.
Link once[]
A given page should only contain one link to any other page. For example if a page links to Baby Talking Tattletail in one place, then that should be the only link to Baby Talking Tattletail on that page. Typically this link should be the first instance of the term in the article.
Do not use conversational style[]
This is an information site - it should not read like a Facebook message.
- Do not use internet slang (ex. "How r u?" or "c u 2nite"). If you are not 100% sure about the way a word is spelled, type it into Google or Dictionary.com. If you know that you are not the strongest speller, compose your edits in a word processor like Microsoft Word or use an Internet browser like Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome, which has spell-checking built in.
Be neutral[]
Write in a neutral, informative tone. That is, do not write in a tone that glorifies or berates the subject.

Grammar guidelines[]
When adding information, be sure to know the differences between the following:
It's, its[]
It's is a contraction, and is short for "it is", while its is a singular possessive pronoun.

A, an[]
Simple, should the word following it begin with a vowel, use an. However, if the vowel uses a constanant sound (such as "useful" using a "y" sound), then use a.

There, their, they're[]
There is an indefinite article, and describes the location of a place, item, or person. They're is a contraction which is short for "they are". Their is a singular possessive pronoun.
Effect, affect[]
Effect is a noun, affect is a verb.
Your, you're[]
Your is a possessive pronoun, you're is a contraction short for "you are". This is useful for writing down dialogue or quotes, the only place on mainspace articles where the word you is allowed.
General guidelines[]
When editing articles, remember take into account the following things:
- Read each article in its entirety before editing. This is important, as you don't want to miss any already-added information, or forget to fix any mistakes in the article.
- Use the comments section of an article for improving the article and discussing the subject in terms of how it relates to the game. Do not add random comments such as "it's cute <3" as they add nothing to the discussion.
- When editing a page, please proof-read your edits to make sure that spelling and grammar is correct and that you're not adding redundant, out-dated, or made-up information.
- Should your edits be undone, then it most likely means that you're not adding any useful information. If you do feel that your edit holds some value, then you can discuss it with an admin or on the article comments section.
- Do not instigate "Edit Wars", meaning constantly reverting the same edit over and over again with another person. Use the other party's talk page if you wish to debate this with them.
- Remember to use the edit summary feature so that people can understand what it is you changed in the article. Please try to be constructive and avoid bashing previous edits.
- Refer to the player as them or they, not you.
- The Trivia sections exist for a reason: if there's small tidbits of information that are unimportant to the actual article, add them to Trivia; not the main body paragraphs. It does not need to directly relate to Tattletail. This does not mean you can add irrelevant pieces of trivia that is neither useful nor interesting to know.
Image guidelines[]
One important thing to remember when uploading photos is to categorize them. Is it an image of Mama Tattletail? Then add [[Category:Mama Tattletail images]] to the page. Is it simply a photo that you want to add to your user page? Then add [[Category:User images]].
Here are also a few other things to remember when adding images.
- Avoid adding redundant photos - for example, a character doesn't need to be seen from three different angles, but we do allow multiple photos of locations if they show different particularly notable features.
- If you have two similar photos, put them besides each other and caption the second one with "Ditto" or "Ditto, from another angle.".
- Avoid adding cropped versions of already existing photos. Instead, overwrite them if you think your iteration is superior.
- When uploading an image, make sure it is of decent quality. PNG is the preferred format, but high-quality JPGs are allowed.
- If an image has been edited in MS Paint, avoid uploading it, as the quality of the image tends to take a hit.
- Unless the visibility of an in-game location is good, turn off post-effects before taking a screenshot. The post-effects tend to make images look grainy and pixelated, and washed out. They can be turned off by opening the console ("=" & the key below the "Esc" key to enable the console, and press "Tab" to open it) and typing "posteffects false".
- Name images descriptively (with a little of your own touch, if you'd like). This should apply even if uploading an (acceptable) personal use image.

- Do not upload videos, images or animated GIFs for the sole purpose of spam, advertisement, or harrassment.
- For uploading GIFs, the rules above apply, but also make sure that the GIF is free of any watermarks.
This wiki is not...[]
A fanfic site[]
Articles on this wiki should always remain canon to Tattletail. You should not post your own characters and modifications. Keep roleplaying to an absolute minimum. If your entire role on the site is to pose as a character, you're better off visiting websites or forums which allow it. However, if you feel you absolutely must, must roleplay, keep it to user blogs and your talk page, rather than filling up the comments of an article.
Additionally, do not upload fanart. There are much better outlets for showcasing your artistic talent, such as DeviantArt.
A democracy[]
This one should be obvious. Whenever we have to make content-related decisions, we will usually put up a voting or discussion session. However, community votes/discusses will only be taken into consideration. The administrators' collective decision can and will override it if they think differently about the idea.
For example: If the majority of our community wanted us to allow the addition of fanart to this wiki, we would still not allow them because like mentioned before, this wiki is not a fanon site.
A speculation forum[]
Waygetter Electronics is a mysterious entity. Many things are left unexplained and everybody has their different theories and explanations for why things happen the way they do. Tattletail is also full of mysteries. Questions like where the Protagonist's father is are things which make fans come up with their own theories. Because of this, articles will contain speculation. However, we have certain rules about how these work.
- We will never take these speculations as facts. We will not consider them facts unless the game clearly states it or it has been confirmed by an official source.
- Speculation needs to have proof. You can't say something like "Many fans believe that Mama Tattletail is the player's mother." because there is no proof behind this theory. An example of a theory we would accept is "It is speculated that Mama Tattletail is a babysitting robot because there are various clues in the game that point towards this."
- Speculation can not interfere with canon. You can't say something like "It is possible that Waygetter Electronics made Mama evil on purpose" because that would break off of the game's canon.
An essay site[]
Articles should not contain opinions. They must be written from neutral point of views and should not express the writer's thoughts on the topic.
- Do not state opinions as facts.
- Do not state facts as opinions.
- Do not use a judgmental language.
- Should the article discuss a dispute, remember to describe it and not take part in it.
General Ban Guidelines[]
Depending on the circumstances, vandalism may land you an instant permanent ban. Should the majority of an account's activity be nothing more than spam, advertising, or some other form of disruptive behavior, administrators reserve the right to give an infinite ban without warning as the account is clearly only here to be disruptive.
Additionally, remember that bans are a preventitive measure, not a punitive measure. That is, their purpose is to prevent the Tattletail Wiki's overall quality from deteriorating, not to punish problematic users. We cannot babysit you, but we can at least guide you on how to behave when editing the wiki.
Sanctions[]
- First Offense: Warning
- Second Offense: 3 day ban.
- Third Offense: 1 week ban.
- Fourth Offense: 2 week ban.
- Fifth Offense: 1 month.
- Sixth Offense: Infinite ban.
- In some cases, the offense may be so serious that warnings and lighter bans may be skipped and the offending user may be given a heavier ban. Administrators give bans at their discretion but follow these ban guidelines.
