Mama Tattletail is a talking electronic toy made by Waygetter Electronics. Mama was supposed to be released a few years before Baby Talking Tattletail, however, the toy was recalled for an unknown reason and is no longer available in stores[1].

Mama enters the player's house and serves as the game's sole antagonist.

Overview

Appearance

Mama Tattletail is much larger than Baby Talking Tattletail, with proportionately smaller ears and facial features. Mama also has a tape deck on her belly, and a segmented body structure which allows her head to turn independently from her body. She has brown fur, and that appears to be the only fur coloration Mama Tattletails were ever produced with.

The Mama Tattletail toy seen in Tattletail has frayed ears and glowing red eyes. During the jumpscare sequence, she has an extended mouth and six sharp teeth.

Features

Mama Tattletail was designed to read stories to children via the use of various pre-recorded cassette tapes. The tapes seem to have been accompanied by books for the children to read along with, judging by the inclusion of "turn the page" in the tape heard in-game. Mama's head would spin around while the tape was being played.

Mama does not speak until the tape is inserted, and may be unable to speak without a tape.

Gameplay

Mama is attracted to loud noises and will follow the player around based on the noises they make. If the player makes a loud noise too close to Mama, she will attack. Mama's attack kills the player character instantly.

She can move around the house, but only when the player isn't looking directly at her. Looking directly at Mama causes the player's flashlight to go out.

In-Game Appearances

December 21, 1998

Mama's eyes are briefly seen. The player's Tattletail will say "Mama scary" after the main objective of this chapter is complete.

December 22, 1998

The player will find Mama in the basement and must insert the cassette tape and listen to Mama's story to proceed. The player's Tattletail will ask to see Mama, but she will already be gone by the time the player takes Tattletail to the basement. She can be found upstairs for the remainder of the chapter.

This is the first night during which Mama can kill the player character.

December 23, 1998

Mama will consistently terrorize the player character throughout this chapter while the Tattletails play hide-and-seek.

The yellow Tattletail can be heard conversing with Mama during the final hide-and-seek game. It tells Mama that the player character is in the bedroom.

At the end of this chapter, you find a VHS tape which contains a Tattletail commercial in which Mama is featured. "Mama" is one of the cameras you can access while watching the tape.

December 24, 1998

The Tattletails are throwing a "party" for Mama, which is in fact an attempt to banish her using the VHS tape from the previous night. Mama will hunt the player character while they are gathering supplies, and also steals some candles and hides them in vases part way through the ritual.

December 25, 1998

Mama will attack the player once they have opened their Christmas gift.
