Who remembers Talking Tattletail? It was SO creepy, right??

— Steam Page

Baby Talking Tattletail, or just Tattletail are deuteragonist toys of Tattletail. They were developed by Waygetter Electronics.

The protagonist was supposed to receive one on Christmas, but opens it from its present five days prior. The player must take care of its needs every night before the protagonist can go back to sleep.

Overview

Appearance

Tattletail is somewhat small, and has an egg-like body shape with small, human-like feet and a cat-like face. Tattletail has a small heart-shaped nose and large blue eyes with purple-blue eyelids, complete with large pointed ears making a large resemblance to the Furby. Tattletail can come in many different colors, as shown by the purple, yellow, and blue Tattletails that appear later in the game. Tattletail also has an egg hole and a small tuft of hair on his head.

Features

Tattletail is able to speak and respond to the environment. The tuft of fur on top of it's head needs to be brushed. Tattletail eats real food and can sense darkness. The food that Tattletail eats goes into eggs filled with "goodies", and are left all over the house.

Gameplay

Tattletail has several needs that must be maintained throughout the night. Tattletail must be fed, groomed, and kept charged. These needs can be kept track of by the bars on the top left of the screen. When these needs fail to be fulfilled, Tattletail will emit noise. This will initially make the player assume that Tattletail is an antagonist, as it attracts Mama.

Tattletail can be groomed by using the brush found on the couch in the living room.

Tattletail can be fed by using the fridge located in the kitchen.

Tattletail can be charged by using the charging station located in the basement. Performing this action takes significantly more time than the others.

Tattletail does not like the dark, and will emit noise when light is low or absent. The Flashlight is used to counter this when the lights are out.

In-Game Appearances

December 20, 1998

The player opens their Christmas present early, which is revealed to be a light purple-furred Baby Talking Tattletail. It is to be fed, and groomed. Tattletail is then put back into the box and back into the wrapping.

December 21, 1998

Tattletail is found in the basement dryer when the player goes to investigate it. The batteries in Tattletail then must be charged. Afterwards, the player is tasked with finding a vase to play with. In doing so, the vase breaks and the lights go out. After retrieving the flashlight, Mama is seen briefly in the dark before the lights come back on. Tattletail is then to be put back into the box and wrapped back up.

December 22, 1998

After investigation of the whirring noise in the basement, Tattletail is found upstairs, having made a mess in the living room. Tattletail is then to be taken to Mama, whom, upon arriving to her previous location, has disappeared. Tattletail is then to be put back into the box and wrapped back up.

December 23, 1998

Tattletail is found in the garage with another yellow variant. The player interacts with this Tattletail by playing Hide & Seek, in which the yellow Tattletail goes to hide for an increasing amount of time while the player is left to survive with their Tattletail against Mama.

December 24, 1998

Tattletail appears at the beginning of the night with the flashlight underneath it. The player is lead towards the basement, where the yellow Tattletail is accompanied by a blue Tattletail. The player sets down Tattletail on the charging station and is told to bring friends from the under the Christmas tree and the garage and various items to them, whilst avoiding Mama. The items being cupcakes, Christmas lights, and candles, in that order. After the candles are brought down, the lights have been assorted into a pentagram. Placing down the candles begins a seance to banish Mama. Throughout said seance, Mama will steal the candles and hide them in vases while also hunting the player. Surviving the seance and destroying the tape ends in the five Tattletails turning into wrapped boxes, after which the player goes to bed.

December 25, 1998

An empty Tattletail box is given to the player on Christmas Day before Mama attacks them. It is unknown which Tattletail inhabited the box, though it was most likely the purple one.

Secret Ending

With the release of the "Gift" update on January 9th, 2017, a "secret ending" was added, wherein the purple Tattletail is actually in his box on Christmas morning. It will give the player a tag, on which is recorded his manufacturing information and date of 'birth,' and a Golden Flashlight, which takes longer to drain than the normal flashlight. The player then goes to wake up their mother; upon opening the door, the mother can be heard yawning, as Tattletail exclaims: "Thank you!"
